Everything You Need to Know

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY TAKE LESSONS WITH YOU?

I have been teaching guitar for over ten years and have had the privilege of instructing a diverse range of students of various ages and abilities. Having also taught in schools as a visiting guitar teacher, I provided instruction for A-Level Music and Music Technology, specialising in Music Production and compositions for components 1 and 2. Alongside my teaching, I have also worked towards achieving my PhD in Music, focusing on the use of spatial parameters in music composition. I recognise that every student has unique needs, so I customise my lessons according to their individual abilities and musical interests. Throughout the years, I have achieved a 100% pass rate for graded guitar exams, with most students earning either a merit or distinction. Having lessons with a dedicated instructor not only guides your practice so it is correctly tailored to your needs, but also provides an appropriate level of accountability that helps you keep motivated. The most important consideration for instrumental lessons is your enjoyment, and I will do everything possible to keep you engaged and excited in each session.

DO YOU OFFER LESSONS ANYWHERE OTHER THAN LICHFIELD?

Absolutely! I currently teach students in areas such as Shenstone, Kings Bromley, Yoxhall, Burntwood, Whittington, Norton Canes, Sutton Coldfield, Four Oaks etc... So don't assume you can't get lessons if you don't live in Lichfield. Please note prices may change dependant on how far away from the Lichfield area you are.

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR TEACHING SERVICES?

I charge £17 for a 30min session or £25.50 for a 45mins session.

WHERE DO YOU HOLD YOUR LESSONS?

I hold the lessons at the student's home, which means you don't have to travel at all, saving time and money. I am fully DBS checked so you can have confidence in me and my teaching.

SHOULD I LEARN GRADES FOR GUITAR?

The decision really depends on you. Grades can serve as a certification to show that you have reached a certain level of achievement, which can be beneficial if you want to go to university, as they can help increase your UCAS points. However, many students find graded work tedious, which can negatively impact their progress and motivation. I would recommend pursuing grades when you feel prepared, as they can provide you with goals to strive for. With the right teacher, the experience can also be enjoyable!

WILL I NEED TO PRACTICE BETWEEN LESSONS?

Regardless of the instrument you choose to learn, it's important to reinforce and build upon the insights gained in each lesson to make progress over time. While this progress can sometimes feel slow, consistency is crucial when learning the guitar.
